Disability Care

Disability care in Australia

Disability is a normal part of human diversity. There are around 4 million people with disabilities in Australia. Disability may be permanent, temporary or fluctuating, and may have a minimal or substantial impact on a person’s life. Disability may impact mobility, learning or communication and can result from accidents, illnesses or genetic conditions. Disability does not just refer to a person’s health or well-being. It involves the collaboration and coordination between the unique features and functions of a person’s body and mind and the environment and socio-economic context in which they live. Disability is not always visible or singular. For example, an individual who has cerebral palsy may also experience a mental health condition such as anxiety, or someone with vision impairment may also have a learning disability. Disability does not necessarily mean a person can’t achieve his/ her goals. People with disabilities have the same goals and rights as everyone else in order to make decisions for their own lives and to be active members of society. A properly designed support can help people with disability not only set the targets of their life but also to achieve them in an easy way. Disabled people are often spoken about as they form one group. However, every disabled person has different health conditions and challenges. The different types of home helps for disabled adults

There is no denying that we all feel more comfortable in our own homes. However, if you have have a disability, your family may be worried about how you are able to do regular activities, for example, cooking and going shopping. An in-home carer is able to provide the assistance you need with tasks like this while enjoying the company of your family. You can have the peace of mind that there is always someone to help you, no matter what the circumstances are. Plus, no matter whether you only need disability support services for a short period of time, or if you need care and support on a long-term basis, we can assist. There are a number of different options available to you when it comes to disability care at home. However, the two main options are as follows:

  • Live-in care.
  • Visiting Care.

  • Live-in disability care

This form of care is when the disability support worker will live in the client’s home, ensuring they can help whenever the patient needs it, day or night. As mentioned, there are many different types of home and private care services that we provide, ranging from domiciliary care to senior care. There have been a lot of studies that have suggested that people prefer to live in their own home rather than going to a private residential care home when they get any disability. This is because they feel comfortable in their own home and they want to maintain a level of independence. This is something that the live-in carer can help you to achieve. After all, moving to a new home can be stressful for anyone. When you couple this with the fact that you will be moving into a residential care facility, with set visiting times, set meals, and set routines, it is not hard to see why someone would not be excited about this. However, it is important to realise that  residential care homes are not the only option. You can still enjoy life with your loved one by receiving the care and assistance that you deserve without making your move into one of the private care homes. In home care means that you will be able to keep to the same daily routines as usual and that friends and family members will still be able to visit you as they would usually do. The only difference is it you will have an experienced carer who will be there to provide a regulated service. This means that they will provide you with all the help and assistance that you need, like you would get in residential homes, so that you can live a happy and healthy life in your home without having to rely on residential care facilities.

One thing that we can help you to do is to maintain your independence. This is the number one reason why people do not want to move into a residential facility. We can support you in getting out and about. This could be anything from enjoying some time with your friends and family to going to the cinema or doing some shopping. We can also help with assisted holidays as well.

There are a number of different tasks that we can help with around the home. This includes running errands, for example, shopping for groceries and collecting prescriptions.

We can also provide pet care if you have a pet, including feeding and walks. We will assist you with the preparation and cooking of meals suited to your personal taste and dietary requirements.

We can also help with the laundry, including washing, drying, and ironing clothes. Aside from this, we will assist with housekeeping matters, which consists of all of the regular chores, for example, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning, and tidying.

With live-in care, some of the support services that can be provided includes the following:

We make sure that the live-in care we provide is flexible to allow for the person’s specific needs. Our sympathetic and versatile carers will evaluate your daily routine, ensuring a relationship that leads to optimum well-being and reassurance.

We’ll put together a comprehensive Care Plan

Following an initial consultation with you or your family members/ other stakeholders. Affection Disability Care will develop for you a comprehensive 24-Hour Care Plan and home care package which addresses all areas of support we offer and how we might best serve you to support and maintain your 24-hour

Our passionate Case Managers will work with you and/or your family to develop a comprehensive Care Plan which ensures that the services provided are aimed at achieving your goals, wants and needs.

Care plans are reviewed by the participants and/or their families at regular intervals to assess ongoing changes and learning, and to ensure that planned activities are being achieved and are still relevant to the person’s goals. As a minimum requirement, plans are reviewed every year.

  • Visiting care

Some adults with disabilities want to maintain independence and so they don’t want a carer living with them. If this applies to you, visiting care may be more beneficial. With this, you will continue to live at home and you will have a carer who comes to visit you on a daily basis. This could be one, two, or three times per day.

Someone who is looking for visiting care will have different requirements when compared with those needing live-in care. However, the support provided will still fall in line with the list above. This includes visiting the shops, help with personal hygiene, and help with light housework and cooking, as well as companionship.

Not only do we provide care services for the person living with a disability, but we are very aware of just how crucial our services are for the entire family. It is our aim to give you peace of mind and to put you at ease. We can also help you explore other avenues available for you. Whether you want to find out about other support options or you want some advice on choosing disability aids, we would be more than happy to assist you in any way that to ensure that you and your loved one can lead a comfortable and fulfilling life.

Of course, if you are a family member of someone with a disability or you usually provide care for them, it is important that you get a break from time-to-time. We are here to fill in these gaps of care whenever you need them. Perhaps you simply need our services for a week or so while you go on holiday! May you want to be the primary carer for your loved one but you need some extra support or training? Or, you need someone to step in and take the reigns because you have something else going on in your life. No matter what your circumstances are, we can adapt the care we provide to suit you.
