The delivery of quality support for high-intensity daily personal activities is very challenging and carries high risks for NDIS participants and workers. Participants requiring these support services have intricate health needs, and they are required to be delivered by highly skilled and experienced supporting workers with specialized qualifications, in order to ensure that the support they provide is accurate, safe and of the highest quality.

It is essential for providers to provide the support workers with the relevant skills and knowledge in order to deliver services for high-intensity daily activities. Support workers need to have relevant qualifications and skills as well as previous experience in accordance to the participant’s compound needs. It is therefore extremely important to take extra care while delivering these services, to ensure accuracy, safety and high efficiency.

A higher intensity support may be required where a participant requires assistance from a support worker with additional qualifications and experience relevant to the participant’s complex needs. For example, when:

Frequent (at least 1 instance per shift) assistance is required to manage challenging behaviors that require intensive positive behavior support and/or

Continual active support is required due to high medical support needs (such as unstable seizure activity or respiratory support).
